1. What is the Frequency Generator?
The Frequency Generator is a tool that lets you create sounds at any specific frequency (Hz) you choose. Use it when you need a frequency not available in the library, or when you want to customize binaural beats yourself.
💡
What is frequency (Hz)? Frequency is the number of times a sound vibrates per second, measured in Hertz (Hz). Higher numbers mean higher-pitched sounds, lower numbers mean deeper sounds. For example, 440 Hz is the standard musical note "A".
The 5DO Frequency Generator can produce any sound from 1 Hz to 20,000 Hz and includes advanced features like binaural beats and dual tone mode — all accessible through a simple interface.
The Frequency Generator screen is divided into four main areas:
- Top — Oscilloscope: Shows the real-time waveform of the sound being played. You can visually see what your sound looks like.
- Mode Buttons: Switch between Single (default), Binaural, and Dual modes.
- Frequency / Waveform Panel: Set your target frequency and choose the waveform type (sine, square, etc.).
- Harmonics Panel: Add overtones to make the sound richer and fuller.
- Output / Gain Panel: Control the volume of the generated sound.
- Export / Preset Panel: Save as WAV files or manage your saved presets.
Just four steps to start hearing your frequency.
-
Set the Frequency
Use the slider or type a number directly to set your desired frequency (Hz). For example, type 528 to hear 528 Hz.
-
Choose a Waveform
This determines the "texture" of the sound. If you're new, start with Sine — it's the smoothest and purest sound.
-
Press ▶ Play
Tap the play button and the sound starts immediately. Watch the oscilloscope come to life with the waveform animation.
-
Adjust Volume (Gain)
Use the gain slider to control loudness. Always start at a low volume and gradually increase.
Waveform Types
〜 Sine
The purest, smoothest sound. Ideal for meditation, sleep, and relaxation.
⊓ Square
A strong, distinct sound. Often used for chakra activation and energy stimulation.
△ Triangle
Slightly rougher than sine, with a warm, mellow character.
⩘ Sawtooth
The richest in overtones. Used for energy boosting and sound layering.
Binaural beats work by playing slightly different frequencies in each ear. Your brain perceives the difference between the two as a pulsing beat, which can gently guide your brainwaves into a desired state.
⚠️
You must use headphones or earbuds! Binaural beats require separate audio channels for each ear. They will not work through speakers.
How to use:
-
Select Binaural Mode
Tap the "Binaural" button in the mode selector.
-
Set the Base Frequency
Enter your base frequency. For example: 432 Hz.
-
Set the Gap (Hz)
Set the difference between left and right ears. For example: a 10 Hz gap means the left ear hears 432 Hz and the right ear hears 442 Hz. Your brain entrains to the 10 Hz difference (Alpha wave).
💡
Example: 432 Hz base + 10 Hz gap = Left ear 432 Hz, Right ear 442 Hz → Your brain perceives a 10 Hz beat, guiding it into the Alpha state (relaxation and focus).
Binaural Gap Ranges & Brainwave Effects
| Gap Range | Brainwave | Effect |
| 1 – 4 Hz | Delta | Deep sleep, physical recovery |
| 4 – 8 Hz | Theta | Meditation, creativity, subconscious access |
| 8 – 13 Hz | Alpha | Relaxation, light focus, stress relief |
| 13 – 30 Hz | Beta | Active thinking, learning, concentration |
| 30 – 100 Hz | Gamma | Peak focus, cognitive enhancement, problem solving |
Dual Tone mode plays two different frequencies at the same time through both speakers. Unlike binaural mode, both sounds are mixed together in both ears.
How to use:
- Select "Dual" from the mode buttons.
- Set Tone A to your first frequency. Example: 528 Hz
- Set Tone B to your second frequency. Example: 432 Hz
💡
Use case: Layer 528 Hz (DNA repair) with 432 Hz (nature's frequency) to experience two healing effects simultaneously.
Harmonics (overtones) are additional vibrations layered on top of the base frequency. They add multiples of your base frequency (2x, 3x, 4x, etc.) to create a richer, more natural-sounding tone.
This is why real instruments sound fuller than simple electronic beeps — they naturally contain harmonics.
Settings:
- Fundamental: Only the base frequency — the cleanest, simplest sound
- Mid (x2): Adds the 2nd harmonic (double the base frequency)
- High (x4): Adds the 4th harmonic (quadruple the base frequency)
- Octave Count: Controls how many layers of overtones are stacked. More layers = richer sound.
💡
Start with Fundamental to hear the pure tone first. Once you're comfortable, experiment with adding harmonics for a deeper, more immersive sound.

7. Carrier / Modulation
Set a sub-audible frequency like 7.83Hz (the Schumann resonance) or 10Hz, press play, and you hear almost nothing. Nothing is broken. Speakers and headphones mostly cannot reproduce below 50–80Hz at all, and human hearing stops around 20Hz.
A carrier goes around the problem. It plays a frequency you can hear — say 2000Hz — and shakes that tone’s loudness at the rhythm of your programme frequency: the 2000Hz tone swells and fades 7.83 times a second. The speaker only ever has to produce 2000Hz, and the 7.83Hz arrives as the shape of the amplitude.
💡
Worth being precise about: the programme frequency does not leave the output as a tone. It travels as the carrier’s envelope. The panel prints what actually leaves the output — carrier ± programme frequency.
The controls:
- Enable: turns the carrier on and off. With it off, the generator behaves exactly as before.
- Carrier Frequency (20Hz – 20kHz): the pitch you actually hear. The 2000Hz default sits where most hardware is reliable; drop to 400–800Hz if it feels harsh.
- Modulation Depth (0 – 100%): how deeply the carrier’s level is shaken. 0% is a bare carrier, 100% dips to full silence every cycle. 70% is a good place to start.
- Modulation Type:
- AM (carrier retained) — the carrier stays audible and only its level moves. Preferred for listening.
- Ring Mod (carrier suppressed) — the carrier itself cancels out, leaving the sum and difference frequencies. A more metallic sound.
- Carrier Wave: the carrier’s own waveform (sine, square, triangle, saw), chosen independently of the programme waveform.
- Carrier Duty (1 – 99%): appears only when the carrier is a square wave. It is the fraction of each cycle spent high — the pulse width on a QTX coil — and is entirely separate from the programme waveform’s own duty.
Works alongside: harmonics, binaural and dual-tone, and it carries through to WAV export.
🎧
A first try: programme frequency 7.83Hz, carrier 2000Hz, depth 70%, type AM. Toggle the carrier off and on while it plays — the difference is not subtle.
The gain control sets the volume of the generated sound.
- Gain Slider: Drag left for quieter, right for louder.
- Soft Limiter: Automatically prevents distortion (sound clipping) when the volume is set too high.
⚠️
Always start at low volume. Especially when using headphones, sudden loud sounds can damage your hearing. Increase gradually until you find a comfortable level.
Save your current frequency settings as a WAV audio file. The exported file can be played offline or connected to external PEMF devices.
Settings:
- Duration (seconds): Set how long the audio file should be.
- Fade In / Out: Gradually ramps the sound up at the start and down at the end, preventing abrupt starts and stops.
- Include Dual Tone: If dual tone mode is active, both frequencies are included in the exported file.
💡
Use case: Export a 30-minute 528 Hz file and play it offline during sleep or on airplane mode. You can also feed it into a PEMF device like the Quantum Torus X.
Save your favorite frequency settings as presets so you can recall them instantly with a single tap.
Available actions:
- Save: Store current settings (frequency, waveform, mode, harmonics, etc.) with a custom name
- Load: Tap a saved preset to apply it instantly
- Rename / Delete / Overwrite: Manage your preset library
- Export / Import: Share presets with others as files
